Somerset Care Home Catherine House and Frome Nursing Home, a part of the Evolve Care Group, recently welcomed some special guests. Bubble and Squeak, two southern white-faced owls raised by Michelle from Owl Enlightenment in Glastonbury, visited the homes. These owls, native to Africa, have been with Michelle since they were two weeks old.
For those on a Dementia journey, connecting with animals can provide a sense of calm, encourage communication, reduce feelings of loneliness, and promote well-being. Furthermore, Owl Enlightenment’s ethos reflects this: “Interactions are motivational, educational, and therapeutic to enhance quality of life. External factors can disturb the balance of the mind. This can be helped with positive influences such as animal-assisted therapy, especially in the early stages of mental health, which can greatly improve symptoms.”
