Residents, fondly referred to as family members, at Catherine House Care Home in Frome, enjoyed a beach-themed day in their garden this week, bringing everyone together for fish and chips, ice cream, and live music in the sunshine.
The event made full use of the Catherine House’s accessible garden, where garden furniture was decorated with sea-themed table covers, inflatable beach balls, bright leis, mini buckets and spades, and even scattered sand and shells.
These touches offered a change of scene for those who may not be able to get out easily, while keeping hold of the familiar routines and tastes of summer that many still cherish.
The beach day followed a pop-up market hosted the day before, which welcomed local Frome makers and visitors into the home’s the front drive.
One family member, Alan, shared “That was the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time, and the ice cream went down well too.” Another family member, Janet, commented on the music saying, “She’s got such a beautiful, clear voice,” while family member Monica added “Can we have her back again?”
The beach day followed a pop-up market hosted the day before, which welcomed local Frome stalls such as Bath Cats and Dogs Charity, and visitors into the home’s the front drive, located in the centre of Frome village. From hand-crafted woodwork to sensory toys, the event supported meaningful engagement and continued connections with the wider Somerset community.
