Residents, fondly referred to as family members, from Catherine House Care Home in Frome, Somerset, took a slow ride along the canal on a traditional horse-drawn barge. The boat had no engine, just the steady pull of Monty, a cross-shire horse!
Familiar Moments, Shared Together
The crew were helpful from the moment they arrived, making sure everyone got on board safely. Family member Barbara enjoyed the help from the men and told team member Sharon “not to worry” about helping her board, because she had “some handsome hunks” helping her down the steps!

As they travelled, Barbara shared memories of visiting her grandparents as a child. She talked about walking along the canals in Nottinghamshire and having a picnic every Sunday. Looking out over the water, she smiled and said it looked like a lovely place for a swim.
One family member spent the day thanking Sharon and said it was amazing. She enjoyed chatting with everyone on the boat. Other family members Ruby and Bea sat by the window, quietly taking it all in. The next morning, Bea spoke about how wonderful it had been and how special it felt to experience something like that.
